Bars and Waves is a current collection of visualization for Windows Media Player. It first appeared in version 7. It is in the Bars and Waves Family, and the other visualizations in its family are Particle and Spikes, which are former visualizations.

History

While Windows Media Player 7 Beta was in progress, they added Bars and Waves, but they looked mostly different with final version, they have linear frequency scale rather than logarithmic (with the exception of Bars, which is linear at low frequencies and logarithmic at higher frequencies), therefore the shape of the spectrum is different and they have its lines more larger or more accurately blockier (on final version, its small but blocky at bass frequencies due to logarithmic frequency distribuion), and Scope was broken at beta stage.

Presets

  1. Bars
  2. Ocean Mist
  3. Fire Storm
  4. Scope

There is also an unused preset for Scope (Dot Scope), It's Scope but with dots. Unfortunately it has been removed/unused due to issues.

Trivia

  • Bars and Waves are the only family of visualizations in WMP that serves a useful purpose of analyzing audio rather than purely aesthetic use, which is in the case of every other visualizations excluding Fruity, which are mainly an audio analyzer.
